有時候, 為了節省花費, 新人們會要請比較多的賓客來參加婚禮而非婚宴。 這時，每個人都應該收到一張婚禮邀請函。 那些會被邀請去吃婚宴的賓客，會另外收到一張婚宴卡。婚宴卡應該擺在婚禮邀請卡的前面。反過來，當新人想要請比較多的賓客來參加婚宴而非婚禮時，這時每個人都會收到一張婚宴邀請函，那些被邀請去觀婚禮的賓客，則會另外收到一張婚禮邀請卡。這種請況下，婚禮邀請卡應該擺在婚宴邀請卡的前面。
當然，有些情況像是新郎或新娘其中一方的父母有喪偶，再嫁... 等等不同的情況。情況不同寫邀請函的方式也會跟著不同。最好的方法是問賣邀請卡的人，通常這些邀請卡達人們都很懂這些邀請卡的寫法。
